Blog Tour: Confessions of a Debut Author (Day Five)
I am very honored and excited today that I have the opportunity to host author (and my wonderful friend) Kimberly Blackadar, whose debut novel Nothing but Trouble After Midnight, for young adults, has just recently been released. Today’s message is all about giving thanks for supportive friends and family. This subject is very near and dear to my heart as I have personally experienced, and believe so strongly in, the power of great friends and family who stand behind you and encourage you. Thank you Kim for being a great friend and for sharing your amazing gift for writing with the world. You are inspirational!
Without further ado, here is Kimberly:
-Giving Thanks-
Friends and family are the foundation for an author’s success. Their support shapes the future of any book—especially a debut novel. Without them, the book would just be a plot of land, waiting.
Some novels become exceedingly popular, reaching toward the sky like towering skyscrapers. Others are like tiny cottages out in the country, lesser known works, wanting to be discovered. But every structure, even ones built on a firm foundation, require routine maintenance.
To “maintain” the foundation, authors should express their gratitude. Yes, the acknowledgments page is a likely place for this, but so much happens after the manuscript goes to print. I wish I could write a short addendum, but alas, I cannot. All I can do is say thanks to all of you who believed in the book and spread the word to others.
I have been overwhelmed by the support of friends and family. The number of encouraging notes and phone calls, stellar reviews, and attendees at signings has amazed me. I thank you, deeply and endlessly. Without your encouragement, my book would still be a blueprint, a dream not yet built.
To my friends, family, and fans, thank you for building a firm foundation with me. To show my thanks, I will be giving away a Nothing but Trouble after Midnight prize pack, which includes an autographed book and cool new NBTAM merchandise. The contest begins tomorrow, Saturday, March 13th and will continue for a week. Good luck…and thanks! Click this link to enter: http://ann-crabs.blogspot.com/

Nice post, Kim. It takes so many people to publish a book. Without each of them we’d have no books. Like you, I’m grateful for everyone involved.
