Outdoor Hour Challenge #2

Melissa | February 25, 2008

This week we jumped on board with the second assignment of  The Green Hour Challenge, being hosted by Barb at The Heart of Harmony.  This challenge has been so wonderful for us this week because it has encouraged us to get back outside, even admist the cold weather.

We had SUCH a wonderful nature walk today around our backyard.  [...]

Chaos and Beautiful Moments

Melissa | February 22, 2008

I admit this week has been a little more challenging on the homeschooling front.  We are still doing well, but it’s been more about behavioral management lately than anything!  I’m simply amazed at how negatively big changes can affect a family.  We are still, since coming home, trying to find discipline and rhythm in our days again, [...]

Internet Math Games

Melissa | February 22, 2008

Since we changed up our homeschooling methods a bit, we’ve been doing less Saxon textbook math (about 3 days a week), and more real life math, literary math and computer games the other days.  In my internet search for good online math games, I’ve come across some really great sites:

These are my favorites so far that I have found.  I [...]

Yesterday we awoke to a beautiful sight!  It had snowed all through the night, we had about 3 inches by morning.  Can you say “SNOW DAY”!  The kids had some friends over and had so much fun.
Looks like Narnia!

Playing in the snow with friends is always more fun than schoolwork!

Later in the day a huge [...]

Happy Birthday President Washington!

Melissa | February 21, 2008

This week we read George Washington’s Breakfast by Jean Fritz.  The reading of this book has become our yearly tradition for President Washington’s birthday.  The kids and I simply love it!

And of course after reading it, we just had to make Indian Hoecakes, served with honey and maple syrup.  Here is the definition and a little history of [...]

Butterfly Dreams

Melissa | February 11, 2008

I just had to share some pictures I snapped this morning of our cat.  Our screen saver is, as you can see, a basket of flowers.  And animated butterflies flutter about around it.  Well "Sugar" couldn’t resist them this morning.  She seemed to be absolutely entranced, didn’t even notice me taking pictures!
